POTENTIAL LANDING SPOTS FOR ERIC HOSMER – SAN DIEGO PADRES

During free agency, there’s always that one “mystery team” that we hear about. This winter, regarding Eric Hosmer, that team appears to be the San Diego Padres. Who would have thought the Padres would be in on Hosmer?

Here’s a team who is in clear rebuild mode. Last year, they barely had enough players to even field a major league team. Now they’re apparently wanting to go in on the biggest free agent in baseball? Okay.

While everyone thinks free agency is about the money, and a good chunk of it is, it’s also about winning. Hosmer spent the first several years of his major league career on a bad team that didn’t know how to win. I doubt he’s going to sign up for that again, no matter how much San Diego offers him.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic wrote,

"Does this mean the Padres stand a serious chance of getting Hosmer? Nope. Does it mean they will make a strong push to land him? Not necessarily. The Pads know that teams closer to winning the World Series want Hosmer and almost certainly would pay him more."

The San Diego Padres are “in the mix” for Eric Hosmer’s services, but I don’t see there being a strong chance of them actually obtaining him. He was a part of a rebuild once and it’s unlikely that Hosmer wants to be a part of that again.
