Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target in 2017 – Number 5: MATT RYAN

2016 Ranking: 2nd

Matt Ryan was one of the best surprises in all of football last season, especially at the quarterback position for fantasy owners. Ryan had looked to be “declining” prior to 2016, but he went on to win the MVP after leading the Falcons to a Super Bowl appearance.

It’ll be tough for Ryan to replicate that success in 2017.

Ryan threw for just shy of 5,000 yards in his 2016 campaign along with a whopping 38 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. He was a fantasy owner’s dream. So then, why is Ryan only ranked fifth here? Well, that’s simple.

Matt Ryan has always been a good quarterback in the NFL, but until last season, he had some of higher interception rates. He’s been the type of signal caller you can start on your team who won’t let you down, but typically puts up mediocre numbers each week. Last season he was probably the highest scorer week in and week out.

It’ll be tough for Ryan to replicate that success in 2017, but having Julio Jones to throw to should make Ryan one of the sexier quarterback picks in this year’s draft.

Oh also, Matt Ryan hasn’t missed a game since his rookie year in 2008 and we all know how valuable durability is in fantasy football. Look to draft him in round four or five.
