Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame quarterback and broadcaster Len Dawson will be retiring from the booth after this season according to the organization.
There are very few people in the Kansas City Chiefs organization as well-respected as Len Dawson. The Hall of Fame quarterback turned team broadcaster has been the st
uff of legends for Chiefs fans for quite a while. 2017 will be his final year in the broadcast booth though as the team has announced he will leave after this season.
As the only quarterback to lead the team to a Super Bowl, Dawson is the measuring stick for all other Chiefs quarterbacks. Dawson sits on top of the team’s “Mount Rushmore” in the minds of many fans for that one reason.
Every team has its iconic players. For a team with as little history of great quarterback play as the Chiefs, it’s easy to see why Len Dawson is one of those players in Kansas City. He’s a figure that Chiefs Kingdom simply rallies around.
Knew it was coming some time, but wow: This will be Len Dawson's last season in the radio booth for the #Chiefs. Turned 82 in June. #salute pic.twitter.com/reCWlte8uM

End Of An Era
However, today most fans may know him better for his broadcast work. With so many Chiefs fans being too young to have seen him play, Len Dawson’s real exposure to the fan base has been through his work as a broadcaster. Dawson has spent the past 22 years with the Chiefs Radio Network.

Len Dawson has also spent plenty of time in the television circuit as a reporter, anchor, and sports analyst. Dawson even spent some time as the KMBC sports director while he was still playing! It was a virtually seamless transition for Lenny The Cool to go from leading the Chiefs to talking about them on both television and radio.
While Mitch Holthus has long been known as “the voice of the Chiefs”, there is no denying that fans recognize Len Dawson in the booth. Dawson has been a stalwart of the organization for so long, it’s hard to imagine what it will be like without him.
With this being the last year that we get to hear Len Dawson on the radio, the Kansas City Chiefs need to make it a big one. How cool would it be for the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl in Dawson’s farewell year? Not a bad little storyline for January.
