Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp 2017 – Offensive Line

Winner: Bryan Witzmann

With a brand new contract from the Kansas City Chiefs, Bryan Witzmann isn’t just sitting back idly. Witzmann has been rotating in with the first team offensive line, which is a great sign for him. The job at left guard probably belongs to Parker Ehinger when he returns, but the fact that Witzmann is getting reps there now tells us a good bit.

Continuity is important for an offensive line, and that gets built in the offseason. Even if Witzmann doesn’t win the starting job, he’ll have spent valuable time there in practice. That makes him a prime candidate to be a top backup for the spot. Maybe not a glamorous victory here, but an important one.

Loser: Jah Reid

On the other end of things, veteran Jah Reid is not getting that valuable first string time. The Chiefs have invested a lot into their offensive line. With Reid, an expensive backup, not getting time with the starters at all, that’s not an encouraging sign for his future.

Jah Reid earns this spot over Zach Fulton because Fulton has value at several positions. Fulton has also been getting some of the snaps at starting LG. So that puts him a step ahead of Reid at this point in time. Of course, all of that can change very quickly.
