Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp 2017 – Defensive Line

Winner: Tanoh Kpassagnon

It has been expected that rookie lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon would be a project for the Kansas City Chiefs this year. However, nobody seems to have told Kpassagnon that as has had a very strong camp early on. He hasn’t earned any consistent starting snaps as of yet, but if he keeps going as he is, some situational play is not out of the question.

Tanoh Kpassagnon is an absolutely huge human being, so it’s no surprise that he’s showing the physicality for the position. What is surprising is that he’s showing a knack for getting to the passer, even against quality competition. He’s got a bright future ahead of him at this rate.

Loser: Rakeem Nunez-Roches

It’s a bit of a surprise for me to put Rakeem Nunez-Roches in the losers category, and it isn’t really his fault. Nunez-Roches is simply the victim of the surprising performance of Tanoh Kpassagnon. The two players figure to be backups this season, but it’s looking like Nunez-Roches will be a bit further down on the depth chart.

Of course, when things start to get a bit more complicated we might see a change of fortunes. There is no doubt that Tanoh Kpassagnon has much more to learn about the Chiefs defense than Rakeem Nunez-Roches does. That’s where his edge in this competition will lie.
