EDINSON VOLQUEZ (MIAMI MARLINS)

4-8 record, 4.19 ERA, 1.149 WHIP (Free agent in 2019)

Similar to James Shields, Edinson Volquez is mainly listed here due to the nostalgia factor. He spent two seasons in Kansas City and was a prime reason why they won the World Series in 2015. His pitching during those postseason games were amazing and he was beloved here after that.

The 2016 season was really bad for Volquez and the team made the right decision in moving on from him. Now, however, Volquez is likely going to be made available at the trade deadline, and the Royals will purely be linked to him due to their previous history together.

Volquez isn’t having an awful year, but he’s certainly seen better days. I wouldn’t advise the Royals (or any team for that matter) to target Volquez right now, however, because he’s going to miss his Sunday start due to a knee injury.

Health is everything in sports and no team is going to want to trade for a guy who is somewhat banged up. Why else do you think Wade Davis remained a Royal after the deadline last season?

As much as Royals fans love Edinson Volquez, he won’t be returning to Kansas City at the trade deadline.
