Kansas City Chiefs: Free Agents To Avoid #1

Colin Kaepernick – QB

More from Chiefs Free Agency

Of all the free agents out there, no name is hotter than Colin Kapernick…and some have linked him to the Kansas City Chiefs. There have even been plenty of Chiefs fans who have been calling for him. However, this is a move that simply should not be made. Unless you are cutting Alex Smith on the spot. signing Kapernick creates an instant problem in the locker room.

I had planned on addressing Colin Kaepernick earlier this offseason. However, the feedback on Kaepernick to the Chiefs was so bad that I didn’t even bother. Yet here we are and I’m talking about it anyways.

Plain and simple, Colin Kaepernick is not worth the investement. Apart from one season of work, he has not shown the ability to lead a team. Since that 2012 campaign, Kaepernick has not been that good a quarterback. The Chiefs would also have to change the offense to fit him. The time and resources that this move would cost are not worth the risk.

It is easy for fans to get caught up in the idea of signing free agents, but the Kansas City Chiefs have a strong roster already. They don’t need to make high profile moves, they just need to win. That is something the Chiefs have already been doing, so there is no reason to rock the boat. Build through the draft and continue to sit at the top of the league.
