The “What Ifs” of 2016

What if Jamaal Charles was healthy?

The whole year, the offense felt like it was missing something. It was glaringly obvious in the AFC Divisional game against the Steelers that what was missing was a powerful running game.

Even though Jamaal Charles got injured two seasons ago, he was replaced with a well-oiled running back machine of Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware. It obviously did not work this year as well as it did last year.

West completely disappeared from the running game last season and Ware looked like a shell of his former self. There were games like the two against the Titans and Buccaneers that the offense just fell flat.

Most of the blame goes with the passing game, but if you do not have a passing game, teams go for the run. There was no run to go to last season. Basically, if the passing game was having a bad day, then it was game over because there was no run game to fall back on.

If Charles was healthy, I believe Kansas City would have escaped against the Titans during the regular season and against the Steelers in the playoffs. He is a versatile back that is hard to stop when he gets going, and he would have been a crucial piece in a offense that seemed drained at times.
