The “What Ifs” of 2016

What if Derek Carr never got injured?

The Indianapolis Colts game was in garbage time by the time Derek Carr got injured. It looked as if Oakland would win an easy game at home and would reign victorious in the AFC West. They had the edge after the Chiefs lost to the Titans and just had to win out.

Of course that would not happen and Derek Carr would be out for the rest of the season with a broken fibula.

So, what if Derek Carr never suffered his broken fibula?

If we are being realistic, most likely the Chiefs would not have won the AFC West title. After Carr was injured, Matt McGloin would take over along with Connor Cook and suffer a beating from the Denver Broncos giving the title to the Chiefs.

That also means no first-round bye for the Chiefs, which means they would have gone to Houston to play the Texans on the road with J.J. Watt injured and insane quarterback problems in Brock Osweiler.

Honestly, this route to Super Bowl 51 sounds way more appealing. With a win at Houston, the Chiefs would go on to face the Patriots on the road, which they had experience doing from last year and would have matched up well with.

That also means that with a win at New England the Chiefs would face either a Pittsburgh Steelers team or the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Championship. Very interesting indeed.
