The Journey to 13 Straight

Title Number Four: 2007-2008 Season, title shared with Texas

Taking a look back at the significance of this season and its National Title, you start to see the puzzle pieces fall together. This team brought in easily recognizable names on the roster from freshman Cole Aldrich to sophomore Darrell Arthur.

Lets not forget junior Mario Chalmers, senior Sasha Kaun, sophomore Sherron Collins, and junior Brandon Rush, all big time players who contributed to this team being what they were. The Jayhawks were a veteran team, possessing dominance over the starting five squad.

Kansas would start out the season ranked fourth in the preseason rankings. In their season schedule, they would play three AP top 25 teams and go 1-2 against the AP Top 25. They reigned victorious against USC, lost to Kansas State, and fell to the Longhorns.

Heading into the Big 12 Tournament, Kansas basketball would win the tournament championship against sixth ranked Texas by ten points and secure a second straight Big 12 Tournament Championship title.

Earning itself a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament, Kansas would go on to the National Championship and beat the John Calipari led Memphis Tigers in a 75-68 overtime thriller, which is forever remembered by the shot that sent the game past regulation by Mario Chalmers.
