The Journey to 13 Straight

Title Number Three: 2006-2007 Season

Here is where you start to see Kansas form its National Championship team.

Outstanding freshman Sherron Collins arrives on campus to join the starting lineup to complement Mario Chalmers on the backcourt. Kansas earns a third place preseason rank (see link at the bottom of the slide).

This is the first of the 13 titles that the Jayhawks won outright in the Big 12 and their main contender would be the now SEC affiliated Aggies of Texas A&M.

This team would be the most complete lineup since the Aaron Miles and Wayne Simien mashup. It would be smaller, quicker, and with great NBA bound guards on the perimeter with hot shooting and relentless dribble drives.

With an early season home loss to Oral Roberts, KU basketball would fall heavily in the AP poll. Until they beat the number one seeded Florida Gators on a neutral court at Orleans Arena for a overtime thriller.

Kansas would then take the conference schedule and go on a run to accumulate only two conference losses and win the Big 12 Tournament against Texas by four points in overtime.

The Jayhawks would then enter the NCAA Tournament as a number one seed and advance beyond the first round for the first time since 2005. Kansas would go all the way to the Elite Eight where they would be defeated by the number two seeded UCLA Bruins.
