Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Tackle Options

Larry Ogunjobi – UNC Charlotte

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a good bit of success in recent years when it comes to the draft. This year’s class looks to be another good one. There should be several opportunities to grab a big man at defensive tackle, but the one I like the best is Larry Ogunjobi of UNC Charlotte. This small school player has been turning heads left and right.

I was first turned onto Larry Ogunjobi by a friend of mine who coaches for a nearby FCS school. He told me to find some tape on Ogunjobi, and I’m glad he did. This young man was an absolute monster at the FCS level and was clearly well-beyond the competition he was facing. Naturally, there has been some concern about how this young standout would fare against better talent, but that was put to bed by his performance at the Senior Bowl.

Larry Ogunjobi excels in run defense and eating up blockers at the point of attack. However, he is a little light for a 3-4 defense and will likely need some time to develop. That makes pairing him with a veteran player a priority.

Grabbing a small school player in the middle rounds is often a good way to find those “diamonds in the rough”. I do not hesitate in calling Larry Ogunjobi one of those diamonds. The ceiling on this young man is tremendous, and he is an ideal fit for the Chiefs one-gap defense. Mark me down as giving this move a full endorsement.
