Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Tackle Options

Slyvester Williams – Denver Broncos

I am never opposed to the idea of the Kansas City Chiefs poaching talented players from division rivals. A good candidate for that this year would be Sylvester Williams of the Denver Broncos. John Elway and the Broncos front office have a lot of decisions to make, and Williams could easily fall through the cracks. That is something John Dorsey needs to jump on.

On top of being a solid player who is capable of eating blocks up front and being a force in the run game, Williams knows the AFC West. Getting a guy who already knows what to expect from a significant portion of our schedule is definitely a plus. The fact that he has also gone up against the Broncos offense in practice for the past few years doesn’t hurt either.

However, Sylvester Williams will cost a little bit of money. He won’t get as much as Brandon Williams or Dontari Poe, but it will be something. The Chiefs can afford to sign Williams, but it does make other options limited. I don’t think that should prevent the team from pursuing the big man, but it is worth noting.

Sly Williams should be able to fill the role the Chiefs need. He’s got a big frame, plenty of power, and surprising athleticism. That should allow Williams to occupy double teams, which will open up the linebackers to attack the opposing team’s ball-carrier.
