Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Tackle Options

Glenn Dorsey – San Fancisco 49ers

It would be a strange turn of events, but Glenn Dorsey could make his way back to the Kansas City Chiefs. Dorsey once underwhelmed at defensive end in Romeo Crennel’s system, but had found a steady home at defensive tackle in San Francisco’s 3-4 alignment. Sometimes it just takes a while to find your niche.

Glenn Dorsey is definitely closer to the end of his career than the beginning of it. However, in a role where he splits time with a younger player, he could provide a quality veteran presence in the middle. As I said before, unless the Chiefs get Brandon Williams, I don’t see them replacing Poe without involving a draft pick. That would make Dorsey a valuable addition to help that rookie come along.

The Chiefs shouldn’t have to shell out much cash to bring Glenn Dorsey back into the fold. The 31 year old has dealt with some injuries in recent years, and plays at a lesser-value position. I would be surprised if his cap hit with KC hit the $2 million mark. That could make him an even more attractive piece to John Dorsey.

If the Chiefs are adding a draft pick to replace Dontari Poe, it would behoove them to add a veteran as well. You don’t want to put too much on the plate for your rookies in their first year. Give them time to develop. A veteran like Glenn Dorsey would help with that.
