Marcus Peters: Defensive Player Of The Year

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs drafted an instant superstar in cornerback Marcus Peters. As a rookie, Peters set the league on fire by turning into a ball magnet. He has built on that this year as he jumped out on the rest of the NFL in the interception category. Peters has built up such a reputation for picking off passes that even the best quarterbacks won’t throw his direction.

Marcus Peters has forced his name into the conversation for DPOY with his ability to consistently make plays on the ball. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been given many opportunities to build on his numbers in recent weeks as teams simply concede that half of the field to him. That cuts into his stats the voters really look for.

The chances of Marcus Peters taking home the hardware here are very good. There are very few players in the NFL who can claim to have had the individual impact on defense that Peters has had. He has been a complete game changer for the Chiefs. That is going to carry a long way, especially if he can get another opportunity to make a play.

Will He Win It?: I do think Marcus Peters claims this award. He should get opportunities to make plays over the next couple of weeks, and that will get his name talked about some more.
