Jamaal Charles

There was a lot of excitement about the return of Jamaal Charles to the Kansas City Chiefs this year. However, that was short lived when Charles was forced to go back in for surgery on his knee again. In his stead, Spencer Ware has taken over the role of lead ball-carrier. While Ware is good at what he does, he is clearly not on the same level as Jamaal Charles.

The boost that Jamaal Charles would provide to the offense is undeniable. He is a big play threat, but also has the skill set to get the tough yards on a consistent basis. Charles is also a reliable receiver out of the backfield. He has all the tools you could ask for in a running back. The Chiefs could certainly use that extra offensive output in the playoffs.

For his own part, Jamaal Charles has made it known that he intends to return this season. “Sources” have reported as much to various NFL insiders. However, the Chiefs themselves have stated that they don’t know if Charles will be able to come back. According to Andy Reid, the team hasn’t heard from the running back who is still rehabbing with Dr James Andrews.

If the Chiefs decide against bringing back Jamaal Charles, they will be relying on Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West, and Knile Davis in the backfield. All three have proven ability and can be called upon. The true downside here is that there is a distinct possibility that Charles has now played his last down of football in a Kansas City Chiefs jersey.
