Oh Todd Haley.

Despite releasing non-fan favorite Larry Johnson, Haley wasn’t well liked during his tenure as a head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. He coached for Kansas City from 2009-2011 and led the team to a 19-26 record during that time.

His most impressive season was in 2010 when the Chiefs won the AFC West, but later got blown out in the playoffs by the Ravens.

My issue with Haley was his style of coaching. He screamed and threw temper tantrums on the sidelines and never seemed to have a grasp on his players.

Before the 2011 season began, Haley decided to use all of his starters in the final preseason game, where Tony Moeaki then was injured and Matt Cassel was banged up as well. The Chiefs went on to get blown out in their first two games, win their next four, get blown out a few more times, and the final straw was getting demolished by the Jets in New York.

Haley then moved on to Pittsburgh, a team who seems to have KC’s number over the years.

Since joining the Steelers organization in the 2012 season, Haley has gone 2-1 against the Chiefs. His Steelers were able to defeat the Chiefs on Monday Night Football in 2012 (the worst season ever), but in overtime. Two years later, Pittsburgh beat the Chiefs again, but this time 20-12.

  • 2015 was the first time the Chiefs had defeated the Steelers since the 2009 season, when ironically Haley was the Chiefs head coach.

My issue with Haley was his style of coaching. He screamed and threw temper tantrums on the sidelines and never seemed to have a grasp on his players. When he was eventually fired and replaced by Romeo Crennel, the players looked like they wanted to win for Crennel in those last few games. You never got that vibe when Haley was in charge.

Haley was not a respectable guy among the league, and he didn’t give the Chiefs a very good look during his time on the KC sideline. Obviously things got much worse after he left, but not for long. People will always remember Todd Haley for being a crazy maniac on the sideline and probably nothing more.
