Again, this is only if your fantasy league drafts defensive players. Otherwise you should look use this guy as a reason to pick up the Chiefs’ defense/special teams (number ten on this list).

Why wouldn’t you take Justin Houston if your league takes defensive players? He led the NFL last season with an eye-opening, jaw-dropping 22 quarterback sacks. He was only a half sack away from tying Michael Strahan‘s NFL record of 22.5 sacks and a single sack from breaking it.

Well, one reason you may look over him is the whole contract thing. As you all may know, the Chiefs gave Houston a non-exclusive franchise tag back in March, per NFL.com.

Should Houston decide to sign the deal and play the full season, he’ll be the run-stopping, quarterback-sacking, offense-disrupting presence that we all have come to expect from Houston.

While it seems that giving Houston the franchise tag was the way to go, it’s bad because Houston technically doesn’t have to sign the deal until week 10. This means he could possibly post a bunch of goose eggs for your fantasy team.

I still think he’s worth a late-round pick in most fantasy football drafts. Obviously you don’t want to take a defensive player in the first round, but when the time comes I still believe he’ll be either the first or second defensive player off the board (depending on your fondness for J.J. Watt).

Should Houston decide to sign the deal and play the full season, he’ll be the run-stopping, quarterback-sacking, offense-disrupting presence that we all have come to expect from Houston. Sure, he may not be subbing in as a tight end to catch a touchdown pass (like Watt does from time to time), but he can do all kinds of damage on the defensive side of the ball.

All in all, I know that Justin Houston won’t be going first in anybody’s fantasy football draft, but he’s a great player that should score you a crazy amount of points for a defensive player.

Should he be on the board in my league when it’s time to draft defense, you best believe that I’ll be taking this guy.
