The Chiefs have 18 players listed as average, which is less than the NFL average of 21.

Average

Outside Linebacker Tamba Hali – Tamba Hali was certainly still effective in 2014, but his production has started to decline. Being 31 years-old Hali’s best years are likely behind him, and the stats back that up. Hali finished 2013 with 11 sacks in 15 games, and then finished 2014 with only six sacks in 16 games. Hali was once considered good and maybe even elite, but he will likely never return to that form.

Running Back Jamaal Charles – Charles is one of the best running backs in the NFL, and has been for several years now. Chiefs fans will likely be outraged with Charles being listed as an average player but statistically her was average.

Not counting his injury season in 2011, Charles finished 2014 with the his lowest yardage total of 1,033 yards since his 2008 rookie season where he finished with 357 yards. The offensive line is most likely to blame for Charles lack of production, and with any improvement at all Charles should be back in the good or elite category.

Safety Kurt Coleman – Coleman led the Chiefs in interceptions for the 2014 season with three. Coleman is likely a career average player, and there is no reason to believe he will elevate his game to an good or elite level.

Cornerback Jamell Fleming – Rating Fleming as an average player may be a bit generous, but it is hard to argue that he was bad either. Fleming is only 25 years-old so there is still time for him to improve his game, but for now there is no reason to believe he will be anything more than average.

Quarterback Alex Smith – Smith is a hot button topic in Kansas City, as fans either love him or hate him, but there really is no arguing that his 2014 season was anything more than average. 3,265 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions is the definition of average when it comes to professional quarterbacks. With an improved line and a better wide receivers, Smith could be a good player, but he probably won’t ever be elite.

Safety Husain Abdullah – Abdullah was a breath of fresh air in 2014 for Chiefs fans after they had to witness the Kendrick Lewis experience. Lewis was a bad player so nobody will complain about Abdullah being average.
