Travis Kelce

Fans knew that Travis Kelce was going to be a good tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, but I think it’s safe to say that we didn’t expect him to have quite the season that he did. Kelce became a stud during his first active season in the pros and gained attention from everyone in the league.

Travis Kelce finished 2014 with 67 receptions for 862 yards and five touchdowns and led the team in receiving. Kelce always seemed to be the guy who came through on a big third down conversion and it was exciting to watch. People were comparing him to Rob Gronkowski, which is a great sign for the future of this franchise.

Hopefully Travis Kelce can repeat this campaign next year, as he will likely be the main tight end heading into the 2015 season. Anthony Fasano is good, but Kelce proved to be the more reliable tight end.

My favorite Travis Kelce moment was when Von Miller took that cheap shot hit on Alex Smith on Sunday Night Football and wasn’t flagged for it. Kelce was seen doing an inappropriate gesture and it was pretty darn funny. He was fined for it, but considering Miller should have been punished for the unnecessary hit, I didn’t blame Kelce was slightly lashing out.

Justin Houston

Everyone was well aware of Justin Houston‘s skills, but he had a monster 2014 season. The most impressive was that he had 22 sacks and came half a sack away to breaking Michael Strahan‘s season sack record. Houston always seemed to come through on the defensive side of the ball and if he’s not given a huge deal in the off season, I will be extremely disappointed.

Justin Houston is the heart of the Kansas City Chiefs defense and 2014 was the year that all football fans became aware of him and his skills on the field. Let’s just hope he continues that when next season rolls around.

The best Justin Houston moment came when he set the Chiefs’ season sack record by passing Derrick Thomas‘ 20 sacks back in 1990.

Jamaal Charles

Obviously Jamaal Charles was one of the best players for the Chiefs in 2014. He had nine rushing touchdowns and five receiving touchdowns. Jamaal had several impressive plays in 2014, including his 39 yard run on 4th and 1 against the Bills, his 47 yard run against Seattle, and his 63 yard run in Arizona. Charles had a great game against Seattle, running for over 150 yards and two touchdowns.
