The NCAA selection committee then chose Kansas to be their 4th #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament.

The red-hot Jayhawks first beat Portland State, then UNLV and Villanova by decisive margins before running into their first big test in this tournament: The Davidson Wildcats, led by eventual NBA superstar Stephen Curry.

Curry and Davidson gave Kansas everything they could handle, but KU slipped out with a win with a score of 59-57.

Next came another #1 seed, the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2008 Final Four. This was the game going in that most experts had Kansas losing, as North Carolina was arguably the best team in the country that year, and had been on a roll until this game.

Kansas ended up stomping the Tar Heels 84-66, sending them to meet John Calipari, Derrick Rose, and the Memphis Tigers in the NCAA Championship game.

This is the game that nobody can ever forget as a Kansas follower/fan. This is the game that Memphis led most of the way, and Mario Chalmers hit a fadeaway three to send the game into overtime as time expired in regulation. The shot was nicknamed “Mario’s Miracle”, and is down in history as one of the best shots in basketball history.

The Jayhawks ended up winning the game 75-68 in OT, and Kansas secured its first NCAA Title since 1988.

What a marvelous year it was to be a Kansas fan.
