The Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team hasn’t won the NCAA Tournament in awhile. With all of the upsets in recent years (think UNI, VCU, Stanford), it seems like it has been longer than just six years since the Jayhawks hoisted the trophy.
With this thinking in mind, maybe it is time to take a look back at that vaunted Jayhawk squad that ended up having seven NBA players after they all graduated or entered the NBA Draft.
So, let’s hop in the time-machine, and take a look back to about six years ago, to the 2008 season, which was one of the best in Kansas’ basketball history.
Let’s start at the end of the regular season.
The ‘hawks were 28-3, losing only 3 games to Big 12 rivals #24 Kansas State, #11 Texas, and Oklahoma State (by one point). I should note that all these losses were on the road.
Next, the Jayhawks were given the #1 seed in the Big 12 tournament (and were ranked #5 in the nation), and went on to win the tourney, beating Nebraska, Texas A&M, and then #6 Texas in the Championship game.
