Salvador Perez’s Three-Run Shot propels Royals to Win

facebooktwitterreddit

Salvador Perez mashed a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to break a 3-3 tie and propel the Royals to an 8-4 victory over the Yankees at Kauffman Stadium Satiurday night.

Perez’s blow was the highlight of a 12-hit, 3-walk Kansas City attack that featured 2 home runs, 1 triple, and 3 doubles and plated 8 tuns. Who are these guys?

Perez’s shot made a winner of Aaron Crow, who relieved starter Danny Duffy in the 7th. Kansas City is now 30-32 on the year, and remain 5 games behind Detroit in the American League Central.

On the Mound

Danny Duffy held the Yankees scoreless for 5 innings until allowing 3 runs in the 6th inning. Overall, Duffy went 5.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, and 3 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. Duffy got a no decision.

Aaron Crow relieved Duffy to get the final out in the 6th, and pitched a clean 7th to earn his third win of the season (3-1).

Kelvin Herrera pitched a scoreless 8th, allowing 1 hit and notching 1 strikeout.

Mike Mariot mopped up in the 9th, allowing 2 hits and 1 earned run.

At the Plate

Salvador Perez had the big night at the plate for the Royals. Along with his home run (6), Perez also smacked a double and single. Overall, he went 3-4, with 3 RBI’s and 1 run scored.

Lorenzo Cain also had 3 hits, going 3-4 with a triple and two singles, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Eric Hosmer only went 1-5, but hit his second bomb of the year with a solo shot over the right field fence in the 8th. Let’s hope the homer can break Hosmer out of his May swoon.

Alex Gordon continued his solid play going 1-2 with a double, walk, 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

This and That

Alex Gordon made a nice running catch over his shoulder in left to retire Brett Gardner for the first out in the 6th inning. Gordon’s play likely saved a run before the Yankees bunched 3 hits and a walk to tie the game against Duffy at 3-3.

Billy Butler and Alex Gordon preceded Salvador Perez’s 3-run bomb in the 6th with a pair of walks. Perez made Yankee starter David Phelps pay the ultimate price (at least in baseball).

KC Kingdom Player of the Game

Salvador Perez is the easy choice with his 3-run shot that manager Ned Yost credited with firing up the team.
