Royals: David Glass

There are plenty of people to dislike in the Royals organization, though that number has dwindled significantly since this time last year. Gone are Chris Getz, Jeff Francoeur, and Elliot Johnson from the organization, who have been the primary source of hate from the players front for the last few seasons.

Billy Butler and Luke Hochevar could have been on this list for different reasons. Hochevar is a busted first round pick who has redeemed himself a little bit with fans by not sucking in the bullpen. Should he be reinserted in the starting rotation his stock would soar, but the likelihood of that happening is low.

Butler is an All-Star player and one of the better hitters in all of baseball. But because he does not hit 40 home runs and he is fat, some fans like to ignore how good of a player he really is.

But the Butler hate is nothing close to what Dayton Moore receives on a day-to-day basis. Even the mere mention of a rumor will set off a firestorm of hatred that takes hours to settle down. Say “Dayton Moore” and “Wil Myers” in the same sentence to the wrong person and you may be held accountable for manslaughter.

It would seem then that Moore would be the obvious choice for the Royals. No.

The Royals have been awful for decades now, well before Dayton Moore had his chance to do his damage. The one constant of the last 20 years of losing is David Glass. His refusal to open up his pockets full of Wal-Mart money, disconnect with fans, and years of passive aggressive activity makes him the exact opposite of Robb Heinemen.

How oblivious is Glass, aside from being on board with “Our Time”?  (Remember “Our Time,” the ad campaign that featured key 2012 Royals player Mike Sweeney and George Brett?) He’s signed Dayton Moore to TWO extensions.

Good job, good effort, Mr. Glass.

Woof.
