9. Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 2-7 (0-6)

Previous Ranking: 9

Last Week: OSU 42, Kansas 6

This Week: vs West Virginia

Next Week: at Iowa State

Charlie Weis stated in his weekly conference call with reporters that a team can never have enough points in the Big 12. This is interesting since the Jayhawks cannot seem to score any points in a game. KU has averaged just 15.9 points per game this season, 14.2 in conference play.

In fairness to the Jayhawks, Kansas has played only one game this season – TCU – that they had a reasonable chance to win. And that game was on the road. Those kind of excuses are going to evaporate quickly with West Virginia traveling to Lawrence this week and Iowa State coming up in two weeks. Kansas absolutely has to win one of those games to prove they are making a turn heading into year three of the Weis Experiment.

If not, KU is going to hold a 29-game conference losing streak heading into next season – a record that would tie Baylor for most consecutive losses in the Big 12. Kansas is scheduled to play Texas in their first Big 12 game next season, so the likelihood for a win seems very small.

KU has to win in the next 14 days or else some assistant coaches’ heads are going to roll.
