Round 2

I think Round 2 of this draft is loaded with potential. There are impact players at a variety of positions including DE, WR, LB, and OL. The Kansas City Chiefs will have a lot of choices with this pick, but the potential to get a starting Edge Rusher is too tempting.

There are two I focused on – Nik Bonitto from Oklahoma and Josh Paschal from Memphis. Bonitto is a slimmer, faster edge rusher who is built more like a big linebacker. He’s more of a sack specialist. Paschal is a big DE who can set the edge and help out in the run game.

Frankly, the Chiefs need help in both departments. My instinct is that a guy who can get to the QB more often is more valuable so I’m going with Bonitto. He may not be a 1st and 2nd down every play kind of guy, but in passing downs and sub-packages he could be a difference maker.

If Arnold Ebiketie from Penn State drops to this pick, I’d grab him. In my mock, he wasn’t available.

Ultimately, the Chiefs have enough big bodies – Jones, Nnadi, Saunders, Wharton, etc. We saw how Melvin Ingram, a smaller, quicker DE helped with the pass rush. With Ingram’s return uncertain and Kaindoh still an unknown, Bonitto will be more of a predictable piece of the puzzle.
