The Kansas City Royals have a wanted utility player in Whit Merrifield

The first player I envision being traded is Whit Merrifield.

Merrifield is hitting .272 with 8 HRs, 53 RBIs, and leads the major leagues with 25 stolen bases.  It’s clear that Merrifield provides more than the stats on the field. He is a leader and an example for players coming into the league, making him incredibly valuable for many teams.

A two time All-Star, Merrifield has been within the Royals organization his entire career. He made his major league debut back in 2016 at the age of 27. In 2019 Merrifield played in all 162 games, which is an impressive feat.

So far, Merrifield has played in 403 consecutive games, which is currently the longest active streak in Major League Baseball.

Merrifield also understands the grind it takes to get into an everyday role in the Major Leagues spending multiple years in the minors.  He is extremely versatile having the ability to play multiple positions on the field which would be very intriguing to a competitive team.

As if this deal doesn’t get sweeter.

Merrifield’s contract in 2022 will be $2,750,000 followed by a club option in 2023 for $6,500,000.  So this will be more than a rental.  Whit has been rumored to multiple teams, but seems to be getting most of his interest from the Seattle Mariners.

If this deal does happen the Royals should get some good players in return, and give Merrifield the chance to compete for a World Series.
