Lucas Niang won’t start the season as the starting right tackle

I’m going to say it right now, I don’t believe Lucas Niang is going to be the starting right tackle. At least not at first.

No, this isn’t because I’m putting stock into that video going arund Twitter that appears to show Niang “overweight”. In fact, he doesn’t look to be out of shape at all. Most linemen have guts.

Now, the reason I believe Niang won’t start at right tackle is for a combination of reasons.

One, he’s essentially a rookie and he hasn’t played football in well over a year. He also has a little bit of an injury history as he’s most recently coming off of shoulder surgery. Asking a player in that situation to start the year at right tackle for you isn’t ideal. Not that it can’t be done, but it’s not ideal.

Secondly, Mike Remmers was a fine right tackle last year and the Chiefs gave him a little more than a cheap contract in anticipation of him starting at right tackle some. Niang could eventually win the job over Remmers some point in the season, but starting Remmers as you know what he brings to the table just seems too logical not to do.
