Most Surprising Kansas City Chiefs – No. 2: Nick Allegretti

The Chiefs used a seventh-round pick on Nick Allegretti in the 2019 NFL Draft and it really appeared that the plan was to take things slow with the Illinois lineman. Allegretti played in seven games in 2019, but he certainly made a name for himself in 2020 and could very well be one of the starters along the offensive line next season.

Allegretti appeared in all 16 regular-season games in 2020, starting nine of them. He was slotted in at left guard where he played pretty well and that’s a position that’s been shaky in recent years.

Allegretti had been listed as a backup center during his time in KC and maybe the team still plans to try him out there, especially with Austin Reiter hitting free agency. If this season was any indication as to how Allegretti will play, Chiefs fans should feel pretty confident in his abilities.

Most Surprising Kansas City Chiefs – No. 1: L’Jarius Sneed

The most surprising player of the year for the Kansas City Chiefs was none other than cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. The Chiefs spent a fourth-round pick on Sneed in the 2020 NFL Draft and it’s hard to believe that he fell to Day 3 of the draft after seeing him play this season.

Sneed was thrown into the deep end of the pool from day one, having to start the Chiefs’ season opener against the Texans due to Bashaud Breeland’s suspension. By the end of that game, fans were hoping he’d start every game because of how impressive he looked.

Sneed finished his rookie campaign with 41 tackles, seven defended passes, three interceptions, and two sacks. He added two more sacks in the playoffs too, proving that he’s quite the pass rusher despite playing in the secondary.
