Bold Prediction No. 3: Sign a Recognizable Name

Music to my ears:

Moore sounds ready to compete, and he’s already shown this offseason that he’s willing to strike deals with free agents and not just guys who were non-tendered. Moore’s not spending wildly, either. He’s committing the Royals to smart deals, short deals with players who are upgrades to what the team’s presently got.

There are currently a ton of available free agents who would make sense for the Kansas City Royals, from pitchers like Corey Kluber to sluggers like Kyle Schwarber, and other guys without the letter K in his name.

With his aggressiveness, willingness to spend, and desire to start winning sooner than later, I fully expect Moore to sign a recognizable name in free agency during the Winter Meetings.

Now, don’t expect a mega-deal or anything longer than four years. Don’t expect D.J. LeMahieu to man the hot corner in Kansas City in 2021 and beyond. Nor should you expect Trevor Bauer to follow-up his Cy Young Award-winning season in Cincinnati with a monster one-year deal to throw balls over the fence.

But with an incredibly deep free-agent class, expect at least one more signing Moore, and don’t be surprised if he signs even more guys.

Time to turn the corner.
