Eric Fisher – Left Tackle

With questions about the right tackle spot after the 2020 season, the Chiefs can take no chances with their left tackle Eric Fisher, who will enter the last year of his contract this offseason. While Fisher isn’t the greatest tackle in the game, he’s solid and provides a level of stability at a very important position.

Fisher currently carries a 2021 cap charge of $14.681 million in what would be his 30-year-old season. That number can be brought down likely quite significantly on a restructure to the contract. With so much invested in Patrick Mahomes, it’s hard to imagine the Chiefs wanting to take chances at left tackle as the window for the team to compete for a Super Bowl is still open.

What could a new contract look like for Eric Fisher? Based on his current numbers and the numbers in the league, I came up with this contract extension for the left tackle.

  • Four-year contract
  • $68 million contracts ($17 million AAV per year)
  • $12 million signing bonus ($3 million cap hit per season)/ $30 million in total guarantees
  • $2 million 2021 salary

The AAV on the contract would place Fisher third in the league behind David Bakhtiari of the Packers and Laremy Tunsil of the Texans. Both the total guarantees and signing bonus are top eight in the league for 2021.

All fair numbers for Fisher giving up going into free agency after the 2021 season and with a $2 million salary in 2021, his cap number would be $5 million. That keeps the Chiefs left tackle in the fold for multiple seasons while also saving the Chiefs over $9 million in 2021 cap space.
