What did we learn about the Los Angeles Chargers?

Poor Justin Herbert. He’s already getting a feel for what it’s like to be the quarterback of the Chargers and that’s a whole lot of disappointment and despair. Herbert has been phenomenal for the Bolts in his rookie year, but has just one win under his belt to show for it.

The Chargers once again looked to be on their way to a victory (this time being the ones to storm back rather than the ones blowing a lead), but tight end Donald Parham couldn’t hang onto the football in the back of the end zone on the final play. The end result was a 31-26 Chargers loss, dropping them to 2-6 and dashing any hopes they had of making a playoff push.

Herbert was excellent once again, throwing for 326 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 24 yards. His run game was sufficient and Keenan Allen continued to be the gift that keeps on giving with 103 receiving yards and a touchdown off of nine catches. The defense has been ravaged by injuries and it showed, as they got eaten up on the ground.

What we learned about the Chargers is that while they look to have their quarterback of the future, the fate of Anthony Lynn is up in the air. Losing so many close games like this one falls back on coaching, so while it’s not always fair, Lynn is going to pay for this at some point.

Next up: The Chargers head south for a date with the Dolphins in Miami in the late window of games. That should be a fun one in South Beach!
