Of all the positions on the Chiefs’ roster that doesn’t lack the depth of talent, wide receiver is likely number one. It would seem crazy to invest much in the position right now, given how well this group performs and how Mahomes utilizes these weapons. But why not add more firepower to an already deadly arsenal? With the regularity of Sammy Watkins missing time, could a more physical receiver like him help that much more?

This past week saw the signing of Antonio Brown to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In Tom Brady’s first season outside of New England, the Bucs started slow, but now appear to be a real force reckoned with. With a receiving corps that includes Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and now Antonio Brown, it’ll bode well for them down the stretch. This goes without mentioning that Brady’s old friend, Rob Gronkowski, is now rounding into dominant form.

If the Bucs are loading up, why not KC? The Chiefs and Bucs are set to meet in Week 11 and there’s the possibility for that to be a foreshadow of the Super Bowl match-up. The Chiefs could elect to pursue a big receiver with some speed in the Titans’ Corey Davis. The Titans declined to pick up the former 2017 first-round draft pick’s fifth-year option, which indicates that they’re okay moving on from him.

The hard part here might be pulling a more valuable player away from a strong AFC playoff contender. The Titans likely want to give quarterback Ryan Tannehill every option he needs to succeed. But that also doesn’t mean that Tennessee may not get some trade value out of him before he becomes a free agent. If a trade were to happen, Mahomes could turn Davis into a real offensive threat as they pursue a second straight Lombardi Trophy.
