What did we learn about the Los Angeles Chargers?

48. Final. 31. 13. 38

The Los Angeles Chargers could honestly be 4-0 right now, but instead they’re sitting at 1-3 with rookie Justin Herbert still searching for the first win of his NFL career. The three losses haven’t been Herbert’s fault and he’s kept them in every single one of those battles, but has just happened to come up short in all of them.

LA got a big lead on the Buccaneers in their Week 4 game, but a fumble by Joshua Kelley at the end of the first half proved costly, as the Bucs capitalized and scored a touchdown. That gave Tampa momentum and from there, it was a back and forth shootout between the two sides.

Herbert played well once again and that’s part of what we learned about the Chargers this week. Herbert is already looking like a polished veteran quarterback and while he’s had some bad interceptions, the fact that he’s played as well as he has through three games is impressive. He’s going to be special for the Chargers and while the Chiefs fan in me wants Anthony Lynn to put Tyrod Taylor back out there, the football fan in me wants to see Herbert to continue to play. He’s been great.

It really is wild to think that the Chargers were so close to being undefeated with their overtime loss to Kansas City, missed lateral against Carolina, and being on the wrong side of the shootout in Tampa Bay. Los Angeles might be 1-3, but don’t count them out just yet. This team has potential as long as Herbert is taking the snaps.

Next up: The Chargers will take a trip to New Orleans for Monday Night Football, making it five straight weeks of an AFC West team playing on Monday night.
