Designated Hitter – Seuly Matias (ETA – 2021)

Seuly Matias missed all of 2019 yet still possesses incredible talent with plus-plus raw power, a plus-plus arm, average baserunning, and average fielding.

The hiring of Drew Saylor as the new Royals hitting coordinator could help Matias figure out his swing and miss issues. If the 2020 season happens and Matias shows he healthy and back on track to becoming a promising power hitter, then he could find himself on the 40-man roster this winter.

In 2025, Matias will be entering his age 27 season and his fourth full season in the MLB. Matias could have his powerful hitting approach figured out by 2025 and he could break-out similarly to how Jorge Soler did for the Royals in 2019.

Matias has the potential to produce a .250/.310/.460 slash line with 30 homeruns. There is a comparison here with Jorge Soler in terms of power ability. If Matias is able to breakout like Soler, then the Royals will have a solid middle of the order power bat.

Utility Outfielders

Brewer Hicklen (ETA – 2022)

Brewer Hicklen is an exceptional athlete who played both football and baseball at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. If Hicklen is able to refine his approach at the plate, there is a possibility for him to be a 20 homerun, 30 stolen base hitter at the major league level.

Hicklen has a high ceiling with his athleticism (plus fielder, plus power, plus baserunning) and should be able to field each outfield position. Hicklen will be entering his age 29 season in 2025 and his third full season in the MLB.

He could be platoon bat to spell Khalil Lee and Kyle Isbel against difficult left-handed pitchers. Hicklen presents power to all fields and has shown he’s a competent base-runner, he would be a very valuable bat/runner off the bench for a playoff run for the Royals.

Michael Gigliotti (ETA – 2022)

Michael Gigliotti is a plus runner, plus defender, and plus contact outfielder capable of handling Center Field duties. Gigliotti is a top of the order type hitter with a chance to produce high on-base numbers and 30+ stolen bases per year. His ability to make consistent contact should keep him at the top of the order and he has the speed/range to handle the massive center field at Kauffman Stadium.

Gigliotti reminds me of former Royal Jarrod Dyson in his potential for base-path terror and exceptional defense in center field. Gigliotti may be a better hitter at this point in his career than Dyson.

In the 2025 season, Gigliotti will be entering his age 29 season and his third full season in the MLB. Dyson in his age 29 season produced a slash line of .269/.324/.327 with 36 stolen bases and exceptional defense. One can hope Gigliotti can contribute in a similar manner as Dyson at age 29.
