Darqueze Dennard, CB, Cincinnati Bengals

Darqueze Dennard is a name that Chiefs fans may recognize. That is because he visited the team last year in free agency, before ultimately deciding to return to the Bengals.

Dennard was a player that joined Ronald Darby and Jason Verrett as potential free agent signings for the team last year at corner that decided to go elsewhere.

The funny thing about Dennard is that he appeared to be off the market. He had initially agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year, $13.5 million deal. That deal has apparently fallen through, and Dennard is officially back on the open market.

That is positive news for Chiefs fans. Using the framework of the deal he already had in place, Dennard is a solid player at a position of need for the team that is also right in their price range.

Dennard is a former first round pick, and had a rocky start to his career. Since then, he has found a home as a solid slot corner that can contribute.

That is actually perfect for the Chiefs, because with the loss of Kendall Fuller in free agency, slot corner may be the defense’s biggest need. Charvarius Ward is prime to establish himself as a true number one corner next year, and the team could also still bring back Bashaud Breeland.

Regardless of if Breeland comes back or not, Dennard deserves a look to see if he wants to come to a contender. He fits the mold of a Brett Veach type player; former first round picks who have under performed with unlocked potential. Couple that with the teams need and their  interest last year, and Dennard looks like a no-brainer.
