MATT MOORE

While the other two have been more impact players in the playoffs, Matt Moore absolutely deserves a spot on this list.

When Patrick Mahomes went down with an injury in week seven against the Broncos, it looked like the Chiefs would be left for dead. After all, they were a team that relied on their quarterback to win games for them and without him on the field, they were nothing more than an average football team.

Enter Matt Moore, who the Chiefs had signed to be their backup quarterback during the preseason when Chad Henne – the backup at the time – was injured. Moore had been coaching a high school football team when the Chiefs called him and was thrown back onto the gridiron for the first time since the 2017 season.

Moore stepped in for Mahomes for the final three quarters of that Denver game and went 10 of 19 for 117 yards and a touchdown, a beautiful strike to Tyreek Hill that put the game out of reach.

Mahomes ended up missing two starts in 2019 and Moore filled in for him beautifully. In fact, you couldn’t ask much more (no pun intended) of Moore in those starts.

Against the Packers on primetime in week eight, Moore went 24 of 36 for 267 yards and two touchdowns and in the following week against the Vikings he threw for 275 yards and a touchdown while going 25 of 35. He was sensational in his three games and did exactly what was needed of him.

Had the Chiefs gone 0-2 without Mahomes as the starter, they probably don’t end up as the two seed and we all know how big of a hand that had in KC winning the AFC. Matt Moore might not have seen the field in the playoffs, but without his efforts in the regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs might not have made it to the Super Bowl.
