KICKING WOES

It’s been a rough go of it for the kickers on Nebraska’s roster to this point. Last week was especially bad, and that was even in a 44-8 blowout win for the Huskers.

Barret Pickering hasn’t kicked for the Huskers all season and that’s been part of the problem. Punter Isaac Armstrong tried filling in and it wasn’t a pretty sight. He only connected on one field goal last week on three attempts and is two for five on the season. His attempts were often blocked against Northern Illinois.

Lane McCallum eventually came in and finished out the job against Northern Illinois, though he only attempted extra points (he made all three). McCallum and Armstrong will likely battle for the job this weekend, but fans should hope the game doesn’t come down to a field goal because that hasn’t been Nebraska’s strong point in 2019.

As the tweet above indicates, Nebraska has brought in a new kicker, but he won’t make the trip to Champaign this weekend. Hopefully he can help them down the road.

CONCLUSION

It’d be great to see Nebraska start their conference play off at 1-0, and they should be able to against Illinois. The Huskers are the more talented team, but they haven’t always played like it this season. Hopefully they buck that trend and can keep on trucking in week four.

GO BIG RED!
