WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT THE BRONCOS?

Denver was the only AFC West team to lose in week one and while they weren’t alone there in week two, they’re the only divisional team to be winless to start the year. They came close to sniffing their first win of the season on Sunday evening, but a late field goal by Bear kicker Eddy Pineiro from 53 yards out shocked the Broncos.

Denver seemingly had won the game too, as they went for the two-point conversion after scoring late in the fourth quarter and converted. There were about 30 seconds left on the clock when the Broncos kicked off to the Bears, and were it not for a roughing the passer call on Bradley Chubb, Chicago would have had a tough time getting down the field into field goal range because they hadn’t done much offensively all day.

That call changed the game, and it wasn’t a very good call either. Though it is worth noting that there had been a bad call on the Bears for roughing Joe Flacco earlier in the game, so perhaps this was just the refs evening things out, as unfair as that may seem.

Either way, it was a tough go of it for Denver, as they drop to 0-2.

The defense looked much improved after a bad start in Oakland last week, holding the Bears to just 273 yards of total offense and preventing Mitchell Trubisky from finding the end zone (or much success at all). The Broncos pass rush has still yet to record a sack however and that’s troubling.

Flacco looked a bit better this week and threw the ball a whopping 50 times for 292 yards while throwing for a touchdown and an interception. The touchdown was late in the game to Emmanuel Sanders, which led to the two-point conversion happening moments later.

Denver’s run game still isn’t doing much, posting 90 yards on the ground. That’s something they’ll need to improve on if they want to win some games.

For Denver, this is the first time they’ve started 0-2 since 1999 and Chiefs fans are loving the depressed Donkey fans. It won’t get any easier for the Broncos next week, as they travel to Lambeau for a date with the 2-0 Packers in week three.
