Stock Down

Frank Clark

This one is tough, as Frank Clark was the big offseason addition not named Tyrann Mathieu, and he was supposed to transform this Chiefs defense into a more feared unit. The biggest problem with Clark’s performance wasn’t just that he played poorly, it was also the context that surrounded his day.

Jacksonville came into the day down not just their starting left tackle, but also his backup. That is right, Frank Clark was playing a third string tackle for a lot of his snaps on Sunday. That entire match-up yielded no sacks and no quarterback hits. Not ideal for the debut of the Chiefs newest star.

What was even more concerning was that Clark made virtually no plays in the run game. On the day, he had just one tackle and his only big play was an interception. That looks great in the stat sheet, but the reality is he had the ball batted down directly into his arms.

Clark was supposed to bring the same pass rush as Dee Ford while also being stouter in the run game. So far, he was neither. Hopefully this is a one game anomaly

I am still confident Clark will find his footing and become a dominant player for Kansas City. His next match-up against the Raiders is an attractive one. Clark terrorized the Raiders last year, and this game offers a great chance for him to recapture his form.
