Move #2: Re-hauling the entire defense (Continued)

The secondary play was spotty last year? No problem. Enter Tyrann Mathieu, Bashaud Breeland, and second round pick Juan Thornhill.

Safety was a major problem for the Chiefs last year, from a production and health standpoint. It looks to be a strength heading into 2019. Despite the Chiefs narrowly missing on superstar Earl Thomas, this group should still be much improved.

Depth should also be an issue of the past for the Chiefs. They have early round picks Breeland Speaks, Khalen Saunders, and Derrick Nnadi along the defensive front. The linebackers are going to feature a mix of Anthony Hitchens, Reggie Ragland, Daron Lee, Damien Wilson, and Dorian O’Daniel.

The only group that doesn’t immediately look improved from last year is the corner group. Don’t expect the Chiefs to stand pat there though. They have the assets and cap space to take on a star player via trade.

They can also add quality veterans during training camp cut downs. There is usually a surprise player or two cut from a team for different reasons, and the Chiefs will use their pull as a contender to try to lure the best of the best to Kansas City.
