The Left-handed Duffy is getting batters out could be a nice add either in a rotation or the bullpen.

Danny Duffy certainly built up good will with his comments such as ‘Bury me a Royal’ and his presence in the community and interactions with fans. However, the lefty will turn 31 this winter and has been the Royals best starter since joining the rotation.

Only under contract through the 2021 season, Duffy’s stay in Kansas City likely will conclude before postseason baseball returns to the city of fountains.

The background of Duffy is colorful, littered with him walking away from the game while in the minors, having elbow surgery and a DUI that left the pitcher passing out in a drive thru. Injuries and time away are a part of the Danny Duffy narrative.

While it’s nice for a fan favorite to continue to wear the Royals blue, what value does Duffman provide the organization when the time comes for them to compete and contend for postseason baseball?

The question of value and return, it’s not really known what a team would value Duffy at. Maybe he’d feel more comfortable on the West Coast, as he’s from California. We’ll have to see what the future of Duffy in a Royals jersey looks like.
