Trading for the franchised defensive end would require a contract extension

Trading draft assets for Frank Clark would require a new contract, and a large one. How large?

The estimated value of just over $15.7 million per year per Spotrac is a lot of money obviously. While the Chiefs can afford the deal this year, they do have deals to get done with Chris Jones and Patrick Mahomes in the next year or two years respectively. Is Clark a core player you want to build around?

Pro Football Focus puts the cost for Frank Clark even higher, as the likely contract number to sign Clark on the market they have estimated the Seattle defender to be land a contract just under $18 per at $17.5 That is a lot of money obviously especially when you take into account  a trade may require the Chiefs to give up their first round pick.

If the Chiefs are planning on moving on from Tyreek Hill as opposed to doing a new deal for the receiver, perhaps they view the Seattle defender as a worthy recipient of the new deal.
