NORTHWEST ARKANSAS NATURALS (AA)

The Naturals have three top prospects on their roster: Khalil Lee, Meibrys Viloria, and Gerson Garabito. Lee highlights the Double-A roster, sitting as the second best prospect in the KC Royals entire farm system. He finally provides a solution to the right field woes and while it’s exciting to see him progress in the minors, he’s just 20 years old, so his call-up is still a couple of years away.

Meibrys Viloria spent September in the major leagues last year as a third-string catcher behind Salvador Perez and Cam Gallagher. While he had a slight chance of being a backup this year behind Gallagher, the Royals decided to sign Martin Maldonado and use him as the starter and Gallagher as the backup. That sent Viloria to the minors, which was a smart move honestly.

As for the pitchers in Double-A, Garabito is the only top prospect, but I’m intrigued by Connor Greene as well. Greene just turned 24 and his last stop was with the Cardinals farm system. He pitched six innings for Northwest Arkansas this season and gave up just one run in that outing.

Northwest Arkansas’ roster isn’t as flashy as Wilmington’s (just wait and see), but they still have interesting names that could help the Royals in the near future.
