Earl Thomas

Earl Thomas is another name that seems to be attached to the Chiefs. It’s no secret that Thomas will be 30 years old, is coming off of a season-ending injury, and will be looking for a bigger payday. For these reasons, Kansas City may choose to not pursue him.

If they were to pursue the former All-Pro, he would still likely be an upgrade over what is currently in place. Bringing Thomas in would be tricky with such limited cap space, but roster moves could be made that could potentially allow that to happen. If he could be signed for a year or two, this would give the Chiefs the chance to draft a safety to develop.

In the meantime, it would bode well for the Chiefs to add a former Super Bowl winner. Thomas was part of the Seahawks defense that made the Denver Broncos look like a practice squad team in Super Bowl XVLIII. Could he be the piece that helps to push Kansas City over the top in 2019?

Having Eric Berry and Thomas on the field together would be a revered pair of safeties that teams would have to plan around. This would allow Berry to continue as the strong safety and Thomas as a free safety.

Signing Thomas may be a little further out on the realm of really happening, but don’t put it past the Chiefs to somehow make it work since there was already interest last season.
