Jacksonville Jaguars

Pick: 7

Current Quarterback: Blake Bortles

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of the “Jacksonville Jaguars” and “Missouri Tigers” together is one Blaine Gabbert.

I’m not a fan of the Jaguars, but still: yikes.

In 2017, the Jaguars went to the AFC Championship game built around a suffocating defense and a strong run game. Blake Bortles wasn’t asked to do much, but when he was called upon, he mostly delivered. But he and the team took steps backward last year, falling to 5-11 while head coach Doug Marrone benched Bortles more than once.

So what are the Jags going to do?

As with all teams picking in the top ten, they have multiple holes, but the most glaring is at quarterback, where Bortles just isn’t cutting it. Like with the Giants, Marrone may very well be coaching for his job in 2019 after reaching such heights in 2017. Despite Bortles’ flaws, is a rookie quarterback an upgrade?

Of the ten teams on this list, the Jaguars seem like the one most likely to dip a toe into the free agent market instead of trading for or drafting a quarterback. With 2019 a make-or-break year for most of the franchise decision makers–Marrone and his boss, Tom Coughlin–it would be surprising to see Jacksonville select Lock and either make him ride the pine or call the shots beginning in Week One.
