STARTING ROTATION CANDIDATES – JOSH STAUMONT

Royals fans have eagerly been waiting for Josh Staumont to get to the majors and 2019 could finally be the year. He was a second round pick in 2015 and turned 25 years old in December. The time appears to be right for Staumont to get his chance.

Staumont spent all of the 2018 season in Triple-A with the Omaha Stormchasers, but mostly appeared as a reliever. In fact, he started just five games out of the 41 total he appeared in. Even with mostly being a reliever last year, Staumont is still someone the Royals might want to be a starter moving forward.

Staumont had decent numbers last year, throwing in 74.1 innings with an ERA of 3.51. He even notched a save last season while in Omaha.

This should be the year in which we finally get a glimpse of Josh Staumont in Kansas City. He probably won’t make the starting rotation right out of Spring Training, but he has a decent chance to make the bullpen and then do great things from there.
