CHIEFS WHO MUST STEP UP – PATRICK MAHOMES

Perhaps this goes without saying, but the second year quarterback will need to do better than the other second year quarterbacks have done in their playoff debuts. Fans and organization alike certainly hope the Chiefs fare better than the Texans and Bears.

Deshaun Watson was okay, but not nearly up to the level of Andrew Luck at home against the Colts. Mitchell Trubisky certainly had his moments against the Eagles, especially late, but the Bears offense only generated 15 points, not enough to secure a victory.

Rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson had a few moments late in the game against the Chargers, but in general the Ravens rookie signal caller was not up to the task and struggled mightily through the first three quarters of their wildcard game.

Patrick Mahomes has yet to have a truly bad game. He struggled  a bit against the Rams, but his stats were skewed by desperate late passes that fell into the waiting arms of Rams defenders. Past that, Mahomes has been good at avoiding the bad game.

The playoffs however are a different animal and history is littered with star quarterbacks that have struggled in the playoffs. Chiefs fans can only hope Mahomes doesn’t fall into the list of regular season stars that develop into postseason duds.
