Kansas State (2-4, 0-3 conference)

It certainly appears, at least for the time being, that Skylar Thompson will be the quarterback going forward for the remainder of the season. That’s good, because if the Wildcats want to win Saturday, they will need to do damage through the air.

The Cowboys have shown issues when it comes to stopping the pass, thus far ranking ninth in the conference while ranking second in the conference in rush defense. That’s after playing against Iowa State’s David Montgomery and Kansas Pooka Williams.

On defense, Kansas State has surrendered 180 yards on the ground, leaving them ranked ninth in the conference, ahead of only Baylor. The Cats defense is seventh in the conference defending the pass, 241 yards per game.

A quick key to the game will be the Wildcats ability to tackle. All season, this team has struggled to consistently tackle, and if that continues on Saturday, it’s going to be an ugly day for the Cats.

Can Thompson get enough time to find open receivers? Junior Isaiah Zuber has been the only consistent receiving option for the Cats, and another option will need to step up and produce in order for the Cats to win.

Can the Kansas State defense get off the field, especially on third down? All season this Cats team has struggled to get off the field in crunch time, especially last weekend against Baylor.
