FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS PURDUE

NUMBER 2 – QUARTERBACKS HAVE TO PLAY BETTER

I had hope for the Cornhuskers offense last week when the news broke that Adrian Martinez would be not only suiting up, but starting for Nebraska. The true freshman quarterback did not fare well, completing just seven of 15 passes for 22 yards with an interception.

Andrew Bunch eventually was subbed in because it didn’t make sense to keep Martinez out there in a blowout. Bunch didn’t do much better, going six of nine for 71 yards. Neither guy tore it up and as a result, Nebraska scored just ten points on the day.

While Michigan has a swarming defense, there’s no excuse for two quarterbacks to combine for less than 100 yards. It was an ugly showing by the Husker signal callers and they can’t have another stinker like that against Purdue.

The Boilermakers defense surrendered 144 yards through the air last week in their victory over Boston College, but got shredded by Drew Lock of Missouri the week prior. If Martinez can find that mojo he had in the season opener, he should be able to do decently against the Purdue secondary.
